Late yesterday I learned that lock 44 in the Marsworth flight has been rendered unusable with a broken collar. This means that the whole gate can potentially fall into the canal. The collar is like the top hinge of a door. So I’m going nowhere. I went and had a look (see picture). Apparently today the ‘team’ has been to look with a view to preparing a risk assessment pondering how best to fix it. Actually I’m sure they know how to fix it but just need to get the kit there. I look forward to progress tomorrow but if there is further delay the time table for getting to Limehouse on Saturday will have to be reviewed. I got the solar panels up but it was mostly cloudy so still had to run the engine for a couple of hours. Generally just pottered around, bit of cleaning here or there. Heated up my beef casserole for the third day etc.
