A rest day. Got out of bed 10 minutes later than usual. Had a Tuesday breakfast and carried out a number of small maintenance tasks. Booked passage at Thames Lock for Saturday. Thames lock is in Brent Creek and gives access to the canal system at Brentford, Because it is tidal it is inaccessible at low tide and there is no point in having staff there all the time, so booking is necessary. Because it is tidal there are times, high tide particularly when the lock has to be wide open so clearly not your usual canal lock. It need skilled operation. It’s worth pointing out that at spring tides, there may not be enough room under Brentford Bridge and there’s nowhere to hang about there. No problem for me on Saturday.
Tomorrow I’m aiming for Runnymede. If that mooring is full, I still have the option of Staines as planned. No rush tomorrow. The first lock in Romney Lock and it is massive. I would rather have it operated by a lock-keeper.
