Rain forecast all day, though at the start it was dry until about 8:30. By then we had travelled through the periphery of Althrincham and through Sale, turned left at Waters Meeting, past the massive Kellogg’s Plant and just about reached the Barton Swing Aqueduct.
Very little other traffic moving and with good water we made excellent progress, amply exceeding our daily target and leaving the Bridgewater Canal at Leigh. We are now on the Leigh Branch of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. We decided to push on a bit today slightly beyond our self accounted time in order to clear Plank Lane lifting bridge. If we had cut short we would have run into the morning rush hour and been significantly delayed. Now we are within chance of getting to Parbold tomorrow which would place us one day ahead of our original plan.
