Today we went to Coventry. Never been there before. From Hawkesbury in the past we have always been "on a mission" going on somewhere distant and have not had an inclination to do the 2 hours it takes do cruise the other end of the canal. To be honest, for some unknown reason I also had negative feelings about Coventry perhaps from a single report of a bad experiences maybe. We were pleasantly surprised I have to say. The towpath is in excellent condition throughout, the canal was clean with very little rubbish visible on the surface. Of course you never know what is under the water and there were two occasions when the boat rose up as if traversing a solid underwater obstruction and there was also a spot with the inevitable supermarket trolley creating a scraping sound. The basin at the terminus seems well cared for. We took the opportunity to do a bit of shopping and visit the cathedral which was awe inspiring, the new next to the old which was destroyed in the war. So I would definitely put Coventry on the todo list.
It's an easy walk into the centre from the Canal Basin which is up on the side of the hill, hence the steps you see through the arch.
We have returned to Hawkesbury to do the roof painting phase 2.
