A leisurely start as Pat is going home and we are waiting for the first off-peak train. Then the boat is off, now with MF solo. Really a straightforward run with quite a few opposite direction boats all nicely timed so that I had a couple of locks with exiting boats, so straight in and all the first few locks in my favour. No heroics! So mooring up to prepare the mitred gates where appropriate and in bridge holes approaching the bottom gates carefully to work the lock. The trick learned on the Wolverhampton 21 of exiting the lock with the boat setup in reverse as it leaves the lock, to get off to close the top gate so that the boat always returns to you works brilliantly. After Cropredy I spied a boat ahead, so now all locks full, or rather nominally full because all the bottom gates leak so badly. By the top of Claydon I had really had enough, but all the decent piled moorings were taken and there was nowhere for the next half hour that took my fancy, so might as well continue to Fenny where the boat needs a pump out etc. Only to find that the wharf office was closed, so I will have to remain continent for a little longer! Must be early closing day. Perhaps an early start tomorrow to see what Braunston offers.
