We reached Chester in 4 1/2 hours. Beeston Iron Lock which we did first could be a trap for the unwary. Firstly there are red notices around saying that it is strongly advised to treat it as a single passage lock as there is a risk of boats hanging up. Secondly it has no lock ladder and single handing needs a bit of thought and careful preparation. There is a lock bridge, so roping out is tricky and there is no convenient lower lock landing to make re-boarding easy. Opposite direction traffic helped us. We moored before Cow Lane Bridge (nearer to Tesco, but a short way back there is a large Waitrose now).
