Day 3 of our trip to Chester. The promised rain started last evening and overnight the wind got up and the wind generator started humming, although it seems very much quieter after the base board mods. This morning the rain had stopped and there was very little wind. This turned out to be an illusion. In fact we were just in a very sheltered spot and showers were being driven through by a very strong wind that reached a peak just after midday. Fradley was quiet and with a lock-keeper to help through the middle lock. The crosswind at Woodend Lock did give some cause for concern, but judicious use of power got the nose into the lock bridge without mishap. Thereafter, shelter from trees made things more easy most of the way. We arrived at Rugeley at 13:00. There is a new Tesco on the towpath side by bridge 66. How they will make that pay with Morrison's on the other side in competition I don't know. Better access must be a factor if that is so. For our part it is nearer to the canal.
