Leaving at our usual time we were joined in Caversham Lock by another early bird taking his boat to Shiplake for facilities. Not that it effected us, the pumpout at Shiplake was out of order apparently which along with Mapledurham also out of action might have been a problem for some. Of course there are always the boatyards. It was a pleasant day becoming quite warm as time went on. We passed Henley and Temple Island with evidence of a large festival site being dismantled on our right. The intention was to moor above Hambledon Lock, but the mooring we thought was there isn't. So no option but to carry on and in the end we reached Hurley. Had a word with the lock-keeper and he sold us a mooring in the little weir stream above the lock for £8.50. It's a lovely spot with its own little lawn for sitting out and away from the main towpath, so quiet. There is a farm shop just over the bridge past the church which is quite well stocked and dangerous if on a diet.
