We needed first to move a few yards to get water, then the remaining 4 swing bridges. At bridge 175 Pat found it very stiff and only got it part way open. I went up with the pole to help from the towpath side and a van driver took pity and went to help Pat.
The first lock of the Gargrave flight was slow as we were rather feeling our way to work out the water flows using the various paddles. Ground paddles here were of the capstain on a turret variety. The second lock had the old style sliding ground paddles worked by lifting a wooden beam about a pivot. Too hard for Pat to cope with. After the third lock we reached our destination for the day, Gargrave. A compact little village with a Co-op store in the main street, a pharmacy and post office. The moorings are on rings with well cared for grass verges, altogether attractive surroundings.
