Our appointment with Denver Lock was for 10:45. We didn't get away until 12:15.
Two narrowboats were already waiting when we pootled up. It transpired that some boats were coming the other way - one at a time as Salter's Lode is actually quite a small lock. When the first boat had passed through Denver, the two boats ahead of us were let into the lock and then dispatched at intervals as another boat was inbound. Eventually it was out turn and we joined the ebb tide, starting the turn just before the lock entrance and then ferry gliding across and in. The lock will just take a 60ft boat, a bit like Calder & Hebble, diagonally. Then we continued on very slowly in the shallow water of Well Creek. Heavy rain is forecast for tonight and we had the benefit of a light shower in the strong wind as a taster. We are moored up on the quite decent Church Moorings at Upwell.
