It was raining when we woke and continued to do so, so serious wet gear was called for. It seems to be a fact that once this is deployed, the rain will stop. It did. We stopped at Wolverton for more shopping and passed Cosgrove heading for Stoke Bruerne. Alfie then fell in. I was nonchalantly leaning on the tiller minding my own business when this dog swam by wearing a high viz life jacket. Strange I thought. That looks like Alfie. He must have fallen off the front of the boat. There had been no sound of course and he was very lucky to have been spotted as a moment's distraction and I would have missed him. With sheet piling on the bank there is no way he would have got out and within 15 minutes or so would have died of hypothermia. We met up with Capped Heron again at the bottom of Stoke Bruerne flight and moored up in the long pound near the top. Beef casserole tonight!
