Today the weather forecasters promised a grey day with rain this afternoon. In fact it has been quite pleasant with weak sunshine and less of the cold wind of later. From Berkhamsted we had the canal to ourselves until lunchtime when we met a Wyvern boat trying to get out of the bottom pair of Marsworth Locks. They couldn't open the gates no matter how many tried. Opening the ground paddles solved the problem. "We didn't know you had to do that". At Ivinghoe we paired up with an Alvechurch boat until Grove Lock where we stopped. We took water at Bulbourne and I was shamed by the mess left by a seat near the water point.
These people must believe in fairies, because they know that mysteriously, probably in the dead of night, the rubbish will disappear. No concept of taking care of their own mess. Should we have cleaned it up? If we had somewhere to put it, probably yes!
