Last leg of our trunkated journery today. We thought that we would prepare this morning for a quick get away on our arrival at Harefield, have a Sunday Lunch at the Toll House rather than the pub because Alfie is welcome there, then make a run for home. By lunchtime, and with the odd bit of sunshine, the walkers were out in force. As we finished lunch the electric broadbeam floating classroom "Esdale" was coming up in the lock with evidently an adult party on board enjoying a full hot buffet. It must have been at least 15 minutes later when, having shut the top gates (why do broadbeams always leave them open) that we followed but had caught up with them by Uxbridge Lock. Fortunately "Esdale" turned at the river and we had no problem waiting for Denham Deep, with just a boat descending ahead. Again, many gongoozlers, attracted no doubt by the adjacent tea rooms.
Half an hour after arriving at Harefield we were on the A40 home.
