Thurlwood

A lesurely start with the tunnel not far away. Expecting a wait we were slightly unprepared to find ourselves at the back of a line of three boats just setting off.  Soon we were on the other side in the "tomato soup" water which emerges from the tunnel, stained with red ochre.  A quick shopping expedition to the nearby Tesco, then on to "Heartbreak Hill".  There are some 25 locks to deal with on this descent, single locks, but some paired.  Finding ourseves outside a pub at the right time and with some nearby picnic tables, we decided to stop, having promised ourselves a pub meal this evening.
