A very slow day not entirely unexpected. Colwich lock is the first lock in many miles after Woodend, thus a queue tends to build up. So we had a couple of boats ahead of us there and at Haywood Lock. Further up it was worse. We were finding a queue at each lock as more boats peeled off the bank to join the line. At Aston lock things improved with only one ahead, but with stories from other boaters of 6 waiting to come down. Then at Stone things improved. Passing a long line of moored boats we were first at an empty lock. Altough we found that we were following another boat, there was little delay. However we reached Barlaston one and a half hours later than expected.
