We lefty Harefield at 7:40 for our regular "get-away " weekend cruise to Watford Cassiobury Park. Well, OK, I have business in Watford from time to time, so this is a good excuse. It seems that today we were following another boat - one who leaves lock gates open. Both gates! So it might have been 2 boats. Now I have nothing against leaving lock gates open providing it is the norm for everyone, so I suppose I cannot grumble. At Stockers Lock, Pat caught a glimpse of the rear end of this boater blasting out of the lock.
Going back in time somewhat, we notice that the old Mill Restaurant at Black Jacks Lock has been sold, but no sign of to whom. I do hope that whoever has bought this property is going to be sympathetic to the ambience of this place. We have never seen Black Jack's Restaurant in action, so as to speak, and it has always looked semi-derelict. If redevelpoed as a restaurant it will have to have specialist appeal, renowned for its excellence, shall we say. I fear though that it will be redeveloped in another way.
At Batchworth we passed two boats taking water, and they followed us up to Ironbridge Lock, where we winded and moored above the lock in the hope of getting a better TV signal. - Success!.
A lovely traditional lunch (for us) of smoked salmon, salad and new potatoes washed down with a bottle of Argentinian white
