This was a long and especially tiring day. We had the locks in our favour initially, but met up with a Wyvern Shipping hire occupied by a family of 4 boys and a baby, at Marsworth, as well as a preceeding boat. The oldest boy must have been about 10, so although full of energy and enthusiasm, some of the gates were a little too much for them. The skipper was very interested in our boat and in seeing how it differed from a typical hire boat. Lots of questions. For us, company like this does increase our stress levels as there is more to keep an eye on and one poorly judged lock approach pushed by bow off to strike the lock wall. A few items landed up on the floor, but fortunately no serious damage. We lunch on the run, but they stopped just before Northchurch lock. After that we got on well and reached the Winkwell locks to find a mooring opposite the pub by 17:10. A welcome meal was had there at the Three Horseshoes.
