Monday: On a previous trip with one professional crew I had gone from Stoke Top Lock to Fradley Junction in a day. Not so this time. There were quite a few delays with opposite direction traffic, as the pound at Newcastle Road had been drained overnight and water needed to be let down before boats could be released. Although we were not halted, the cumulative delays added up and by Haywood Junction it was evident we would not make Fradley at a suitable time. 
So we stopped at the private moorings outside the Plum Pudding Brasserie at Spode for the decent meal out that we had promised ourselves, and very good it was too.
