Last Wednesday we decided to have a day out, so we took the boat to Cowley & back from Harefield base. - Saw that the two new gravel barges were working again on the Denham-West Drayton run. Seemingly they can only manage one trip per day. They return ballasted with water which takes a while to pump out. - Also came across a dumb barge & tug with a miniature excavator as cargo on its way up through Cowley lock. - Took the opportunity to paint out the rust and applied some paint below the gunwales on the starbord side. I whiz over the rust with Screwfix antirust paint (which turns black as it cures) and then a final coat of satin black finish. Seems to wok well. Got back after a meal at the Shovel just in time for the rush hour!
