Left as usual from Devizes at 07:10 and started the first 6 locks to the Caen Hill Flight proper. First picture. A little ungainly because there are no lower lock landings, so one has to motor out, and moor up to close the bottom gates. Pat is always working ahead as this gives a straight in to the next lock and we think saves time. Arriving at Caen Hill Locks proper we were met by a host of volunteer lock-keepers, so an easy ride for us. Actually we can’t keep our hands clean and it is done to help if at all possible, but at least by always having the next lock ready there is nothing you can do to make things any easier. We were left to our own devices for foxhanger locks. Rather surprisingly there is only room for two boats on the moorings below the locks, and further on it is all shallow and difficult. We tried mooring up on the vegetation a couple of times but it only helps to destroy the bank. Moving on we were very lucky to find a space at Sells Green. So far we have been lucky because there are so few boats moving about, but in the summer season finding moorings must be a nightmare. Tomorrow we are only moving a mile or two to Seend. Let’s see what that has to offer.
